My dear friends Ryan and Hays Holladay make music together under the name Bluebrain. They’ve been doing this for a few years now. What they’ve also been doing in addition to making music is making weird, technology/music hybrid projects like the one they just released today called Listen to the Light. It’s the second in a series of “location-aware” albums wherein you download an app to your smart phone, plug in your headphones and walk around Central Park. The interesting part is the phone’s built in GPS triggers different pieces of music depending on what area of the park you’re in. They also did one for the National Mall in DC.

Listen to the Light just got released today and I’m very psyched about it. Check it out if you’re interested in music and technology, which, if you’re on an art/literature blog right now, is safe to assume you might be.

This was Chase’s first attempt at a fried turkey. I thought it was delicious. But I think he was expecting the heavens to open up and waves of light to wash over him as he took the first bite. He was a bit let down.

Also, congrats to Chase for receiving the nod from Pitchfork for one of the best vids of ‘09!

This guy was turning his beak up to all the turkeys that got screwed this year. Don’t get cocky dude, Christmas is just around the corner and I ain’t never cooked a goose before.

We played a show. This guy’s band didn’t show up and he had to play all his jams solo. The brass balls on this dude. Hats off to you sir.

I was about to make a joke along the lines that I was forming an all-tuba band and call it Tuba Gooding Jr. But apparently he already exists.

Back to work! Back to burning calories! Keeping the gut at bay! To pressing forward and pressing hard until the end of the year! Finish line is in sight everyone! Don’t give up yet! We believe in you if no one else does! Count on that! Set your watch to it!

The menfolk gathered on a boat once again to bring home the sea bacon.

I woke up before dawn and rode my freedom machine out to the coast. I was excited to catch a fish, but also very annoyed that I had to be up that early. You’d think that both those feelings would balance each other out, make you kind of stable. Not the case. Instead I just felt kind of manic. Compounded by the 2 and a half hour boat ride and unsteady swells of the ocean, wasn’t that much of an enjoyable experience.

But we got to see this pod of dolphins, which was kind of a silent spiritual moment for everyone involved. Even if they don’t care to admit it.

I didn’t catch shit. Everyone else caught a bunch of snapper. The snapper caught a crab in its belly.

Sea bounty.

I love spending time with my dad and bro, but this was the real reason I wanted to go fishing.

This truck smelled of fish.

And the Black Box smelled of sweat and desperation.

Jason and I caught Lymbyc Systym. A fucking great band. Go see them. They are still on tour. If you live in FL you missed them already.

Mexico City recording artist Natalia Lafourcade just release her latest album entitled Hu Hu Hu. Dear friend Cara made the masks and the dress Lafourcade wears on the cover. Cara worked really hard on these and I’m very proud of her!

The masks are also featured in the video Azul (dudes won’t let me embed). The video is kinda whack (why are these twentysomethings acting like seven-year-olds?), but I think the masks are cool, they show up at the end. Congrats Cara!

Sometimes you’re jsut sitting at your desk thinking, “WTF am I gonna blog about today? What’s interesting about reading a bunch of submissions? Aquiring content for the new website launch?” And then this little gem just falls right into your lap.

The triumphant return of DJ Dream Titty is happening tomorrow night at the Cornell Museum of Art as part of their current weekly series Warhol Wednesdays. Come out and look at some Warhol photos, bring some cash for the bar and get lost in the mammary jams the DJ will be spinning.
